The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing replay systems.
Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors are granted the option to question specific calls from the official, echoing the system currently in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move comes just a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to review other decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can ask for.
Case in Point
An illustrative case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire watched a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further change at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
