This Limited-Edition Pokémon Card Aims to Curb the Influence Against Speculators
To celebrate the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring special merchandise. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork all inspired by the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, however, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled from the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.
Pokécology Behind the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited volume packed with stunning illustrations depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept like the kind of research an in-world scientist might publish after adventurers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin might have created had the famous islands teemed with flying-types instead of birds. A key appeal stems from the book's serious approach, treating Pokémon as worthy of subject for inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
Why This Special Card Different
The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release promos for big events or brand collaborations. Many such collector items often feature the famous electric rodent who serves as the series face. What distinguishes this latest promotion apart however, is the unusually large dimensions. While exact measurements were not publicly disclosed, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with fans able to get just one card per purchase.
Curbing Reseller Activity
According to a company announcement, some of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be specific stores in the United Kingdom. Critically, fans will not be able to purchase this promo through the official web shop. Although speculator demand is a given, it appears they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to Chicago in the coming months.
"Every penny of sales from the Museum shop and from its online store, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to conducting studies and finding solutions to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
