Supporters Call for Custody of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are urging that a man who jumped a barricade and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the Australian man shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed features clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of attendees had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, securing a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
