NY Introduces Reporting Tool for Public to Share ICE Footage Following Detentions of 4 US Citizens

The state attorney general has introduced a fresh reporting form asking citizens to submit images and footage of federal immigration enforcement around New York. This action follows a shortly after a major enforcement action disrupted NYC's Chinatown, triggering large-scale demonstrations.

American Citizens Detained During Enforcement Action

A congressional representative disclosed during a midweek briefing that four citizens were detained and detained for "nearly 24 hours" following the enforcement action. Protests erupted in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"Each citizen is entitled to reside free from terror," the AG declared in a statement.

"Anyone who observed and recorded immigration enforcement recently, I encourage you to provide that evidence with the authorities. We are dedicated to reviewing these reports and evaluating any wrongdoings."

Submission Process

The form provides options to submit images and video footage of the raid, plus a field to indicate where it occurred. Prior to sending, users must check a box that states that "the office might employ any documents, photographs, or videos in a legal proceeding, such as in a legal proceeding or government document."

Information about the Chinatown Raid

The Manhattan operation, which witnesses say involved dozens of government officers, took place in a famous district of Manhattan where counterfeit handbags, accessories, jewelry and additional items are commonly traded in large quantities – frequently to tourists.

Footage of the incident show numerous covered and weaponized officers securing and holding a man, and shoving away onlookers. Masses of locals trailed the agents down the sidewalks. An armored military vehicle was observed traveling down the urban roads.

Leadership Statements

During a news conference featuring the New York immigrant rights coalition, Representative Goldman, a Democrat, said that four American citizens were arrested by immigration for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where US citizens should be detained for unjustly." He said the individuals were freed on the following day with no legal action taken.

"The goal is evident here. It is not to take criminals off the street," Goldman remarked. "This represents a armed campaign to create conflict. It is merely a pretext to incite violence for the government to deploy the troops to stop violence that they have created."

Extensive Outcry

Fury over the ICE raid quickly spread – each of the political contenders denounced the raid, including the state leader.

"Once again, the Trump administration selects heavy-handed tactics that generate terror, instead of protection. It has to end," one mayoral candidate declared.

NYC immigrant rights groups voiced concern too.

"ICE targeted the neighborhood with armored transports, masked agents and protective equipment to target local sellers trying to make a living. This action had no connection to citizen protection and everything to do with terrorizing immigrant families and areas," stated the president of a rights organization.

ICE Policies

Official guidelines forbids the detention of US citizens and the organization has claimed it refrains from take into custody American nationals. Yet, independent reporting has revealed that more than 170 American nationals have been held against their will by federal agents since the start of the present government.

Recent Pattern

Enforcement actions have been becoming more common in the state and across the US recently.

An October operation in the city center was the first known raid on an refuge facility of the current administration. Protests against immigration enforcement are commonplace as are accusations of violence and abusive practices.

Latest, a letter provided by advocacy organizations claimed medical neglect of women with child in detention centers.
