Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Red Carpet Event Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted across a fence and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and banned from Singapore.
The individual, 26, was given a sentence to over a week in prison for disrupting public order and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to local media.
He forced his way beyond security and rushed toward the actress and singer, who was participating in the regional launch for the film on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of re-traumatising Grande.
The pop star has spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in Manchester in May 2017 took the lives of 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
Throughout the court proceedings, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to jump the barricades. Security staff stopped him and held him in place.
He then uploaded video clips appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "released."
Authorities arrested him the subsequent day and accused him with causing a disturbance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was quoted by Channel News Asia as saying that he was looking for publicity, adding that he was incorrect to think he would not experience repercussions.
The actress has not addressed the case.
Cynthia Erivo mentioned the incident to NBC, remarking that she "only aimed to make sure my colleague was secure."
"I'm sure he didn't mean us harm, but you can't predict with those things, and I wanted to confirm that she was alright. That was my immediate response," she commented.
