Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the traitor.
